William Dennis
Seattle Pride Official Tweeter
wdennis@seattlepride.org |
I moved to Seattle in 2008 from Yokosuka, Japan after a brief stead in the US Navy. I work as a Customer Service Rep for Starbucks and I'm originally from a small town in southern Oklahoma called Ft. Towson where I grew up and went to school.
Growing up in a small rural community it was hard for me to face the issues of being a young gay guy.
I grew up always trying to keep it hidden for fear of being treated differently and being bullied. Once I moved
away and got out on my own I guess I grew into accepting myself and decided everyone else would just have
to accept it as well.
I decided to volunteer with Seattle Out and Proud because I've always believed that growing up a closeted gay kid in a small town made
my life different. If I could just give one other kid in that situation a feeling of hope and knowledge that he/she is not alone, then I would know
I've made a difference in our community. It has become my passion and my dream to make sure that no one else has to feel like an outcast
because society says they are.
I believe Social Media is that key. It gives us the ability to spread our message of unity, hope, and equality to Seattle, to the State of Washington and to the Entire Country, though I hope that one day we can speak to the world. |
