This summer, the Diocese of Olympia is partnering with St. Mark’s Cathedral and other faith-based and community organizations in the annual Pride celebration to host an evening of music and community with folk-rock artist Jennifer Knapp. Knapp recently rocked the Christian music world as she made her way back onto the industry stage. After years of touring as a CCM rockstar, Knapp took a seven-year hiatus. Now that she’s back, she is bravely building a space where she can be fully herself, a person of faith in a relationship with another woman, not to mention an incredible performer and songwriter.

The event centers around Knapp’s music and her story as we bravely embrace Dan Savage’s slogan, “It gets better,” by proclaiming, “It already is.” Knapp’s presence, her very existence, is a sign of that.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show begins at 7:00 p.m. Local music and comedy open the evening along with a ministry fair at the back of the nave. Episcopal LGBT ministries as well as other community organizations serving the LGBT community will be present.

No tickets will be sold; however, we invite you to make donations to the various organizations present. Also part of the event is a blessing of the Pride festivities, of the community gathered and of the good work being done to make life better for LGBT persons. Join us for this joyous celebration as we lead the way in proclaiming the place of the church in creating safe spaces for all of God’s incredible creations.
